As part of the Fitness Grant for Newburgh students, staff from WinterKids will be doing an active academics workshop for all of our students. The students will have a nutrition learning adventure on snowshoes, to show them we can be active and learn outdoors in the winter with or without equipment. Children need to come prepared to go outside for PE classes on Tuesday. They will need snow pants, boots, mittens, hat and coat. All snowshoes will be provided by the WinterKids instructors. Snowshoes are not safe objects to be carried on a school bus.
Please make sure your child has a change of clothes here at school. It will save a trip if we already have them on hand. It is important that all of your child’s outside clothing is marked with his/her name on it. Our lost and found becomes rapidly full this time of year, and it is much simpler to get items home if we know to whom they belong. We also ask that children have shoes to change into from winter boots as their feet get hot and uncomfortable. On P.E. days it is especially important they have sneakers for class. If you have any questions, please call the office and speak to Mrs. Leavitt. Thanks for your cooperation!

Special School News Bulletin
This past Wednesday evening the SAD #22 Board of Directors unanimously voted to transfer all Newburgh students, Kindergarten through grade three, to Hampden schools beginning in the fall of 2010.
Newburgh School has a dedicated, hard-working staff, supportive parents and sensational students! As we begin the process of relocation, I want you to know that I will be working in conjunction with the principals of the two Hampden elementary schools to plan transition activities. We will all work very hard to assure a smooth transition for our students. Watch for information in newsletter articles and on our SAD #22 district web site.
Should you have questions, please contact myself through the school office or Mr. Richard Lyons, Superintendent of Schools, e-mail address RLyons@sad22.us, or call 862-3255.
SWINE FLU INFORMATION
You have probably heard about swine flu (a type of influenza A) in the media. As of April 30th there have been 3 confirmed cases detected in Maine. At this time, the Maine Center for Disease Control recommends that schools increase education on
respiratory hygiene and monitor attendees for acute respiratory illnesses with fever. Staff and students should all follow these steps to prevent the transmission of infections such as influenza:
1. Cover your coughs and sneezes with your arm or tissues.
2. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
3. Wash hands frequently, especially after coughing or sneezing.
4. Stay home if you're sick, especially with a fever. Do not return to school until you have been symptom free 24-48 hours.
The symptoms of influenza are usually shortness of breath or other respiratory systems, fever, chills and body aches.
If you spent your vacation in Mexico, Texas, California, New York City, Kansas or Ohio, please see Mrs. Norris, school nurse, at this time. Also, if you have any questions or concerns, please call Mrs. Norris.
