Get out the grill - the weather sounds fine!
Dear Parents and Students,
What a fun and educational week we’ve had here at Weatherbee! On Monday, we began our “Pennies for Patients” collection. Pennies are pouring in as we speak! There is a communal collection container in each classroom as well as individual containers for students to fill and bring into school. This project is a great opportunity for our children at Weatherbee to see that small change really can make a big difference in the lives of very ill children. Thank you for your help.
Tuesday, we celebrated “Read Across America” Day. Upon arrival, students could attend a book swap hosted by Mrs. Schall’s classroom. After checking into their classrooms, children enjoyed a Kick Off Assembly where they read for 20 minutes and received a book shaped template. 5th Graders read books to kindergarteners from McGraw and wonderful Reading Pajama Parties were held throughout the school. (The pajama styles were marvelous!) We even had reading in math and we read to stuffed animals!
A Book Challenge will be held during March. Each time a child finishes a book they will receive another template. Students will then record the title, author of the book and genre on the template. The templates will be posted in the hallway. Our goal is to make a chain all the way around the school. Each book will represent a mile. At the end of the month we will see how many “miles” we have traveled (starting from Maine, how far did we go?) We are truly Reading Across America!
Have a great weekend ... doing some reading perhaps?
On Monday, March 15th, Weatherbee School will be celebrating our great State of Maine’s birthday! What better way to begin than to offer Maine Blueberry Smoothies to all students and staff. However, we need parent volunteers with blenders to come in and make these smoothies on Monday morning, March 15th. All supplies are provided. If you have a blender and are interested in helping us celebrate please e-mail Mrs. Ward-Downer or Mrs. Schall at rward@sad22.us or mschall@sad22.us Thank you!
Beginning the week of March 8th there will be 14 weeks of school left - 66 days. For parents who pay ahead, we prefer student’s nutrition accounts (lunch money) to be as near zero as possible at the end of the year. However, any balance either positive or negative will be carried forward to the next school year. To help in your end of year budget planning - here’s the figures:
66 days of school lunch @ $1.90 = $125.40
66 days of reduced price @ .40 = $26.40
66 days of breakfast @ $1.15 = $75.90
66 days of cold lunch milk @ .50 = $33.00
There is a monthly Lego club at the Edythe Dyer Library from 9:30-11:30 on the first Saturday of each month. They do many interesting and fun projects Stop by and check it out tomorrow, March 6th. See you there!
