Hampden Academy Bulletin for Monday, March 15, 2010

THE ASVAB - (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) will be given to interested juniors and seniors on March 23 at 8:00 at the Academy. The ASVAB is a career interest assessment that helps students identify interests and provides information about verbal skills, math skills, and science and technical skills. The results can help students to find out how interests and skills relate to the demands of more than 400 occupations.

Interested juniors and seniors should sign-up in the guidance office by Thursday, March 18th.

COFFEEHOUSE TEA CLUB - There will be a meeting of the Coffeehouse Tea Club on Tuesday, March 16th right after school in Mr. Manhart's Room #44. New members are always welcome.

SADD MEETING - There will be a Students Against Destructive Decisions meeting on Monday, March 15th at 2:15 in room 20.

Tuesday, March 16th - Historical Figure Day
Everyone dress as your favorite historical figure, Best costume award by the Social Studies Department.

Wednesday, March 17th - St. Patrick's Day
Everyone dress in green!!! Halls will be decorated by classes, and judged on Wednesday.

Thursday, March 18th - Get Active Day
Everyone dress in workout attire. Simon Says at lunch for fabulous prices. Academic Assembly - awards will be announced.

SPRING TRACK - There will be a brief meeting at 2:15 Tuesday, March 16th in room 15 for any girls interested in Spring Track. Boys will have their meeting at 2:15 on Thursday, March 18th in room 15.

CLASS OF 2011 - Next year's seniors (present juniors) are encouraged to see their guidance counselor if they are interested in taking an online University of Maine course for college credit as well as for high school credit through Academ-e next year. Academ-e consists of courses representing five broad areas: mathematics, sciences, arts, humanities and social science. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis.

ADVANCED CHILD DEVELOPEMENT - INDEPENDENT STUDY FOR 2010 - In partnership with Hampden Kids Korner, Hampden Academy has the opportunity to offer an independent study Advanced Child Development course combining on-the-job experience with development of higher level planning and instructional skills.
After successfully completing the application and hiring process for Hampden Kids Korner, the student is eligible to sign up for this course. Kids Korner is now accepting applications for the department's before and after-school program. Morning and afternoon shifts are available. ENVIROTHON TEAM MEETING - Tuesday, March 16th after school in Rm 1- Forester Jim Ecker will meet with us. Friday, March 19th is the Forestry Workshop at Unity College. Meet at HA at 7am. Workshop ends around noon, lunch included.

FRENCH CLUB The French Club picture for the yearbook will be held after school on Thursday, March 18th. Come pick up t-shirts and hear what we have coming up.

ART CLUB - will meet after school on Thursday, 3/18 from 2:10-3:10pm. our YEARBOOK photo will be taken at this meeting.

MOCK TRIAL PRACTICE - Mock trial will practice tonight through Wednesday of this week at 6:15. PLease be prompt and bring your materials.

SPRING DESSERT THEATER - The Hampden Academy mock trial team will present its annual Spring Dessert Theater this Friday evening, March 19, at 6:30 p.m. in the Reeds Brook Middle School's cafetorium. This year's case features an attempted murder and elevated aggravated assault charge against a high school student who allegedly constructed and planted a bomb on the grounds of her high school in order to murder her senior classmate. The admission of $5 for students and $10 for adults includes delicious specialty desserts and punch or Starbucks coffee. Come see what mock trial is all about and support the team's trip to national competition in May!
