A Message from the Principal...
Leroy H Smith is a K-5 school located in the town of Winterport. We have approximately 275 students. Housed at the Smith School is a HeadStart Program for four year olds. Our school has sixteen classroom teachers, three Special Education teachers, one and one half speech and language pathologists, three Title I/Reading Recovery teachers, one half time technology teacher, one physical educations teacher, and a guidance counselor. We share teachers with the other district schools for music and art. Several educational technicians are also employed at the Smith School.
We truly believe that we need to work as a team with parents to educate all of the children to their fullest potential. We work hard at the Smith School to provide a caring and supportive environment where all of the people are respectful of one another and take responsibility for their school and learning.
At the Smith School, we take pride in the work we do with children. We set high standards for learning and behavior and are conscious of how we educate the whole child.

Kindergarten Children on the Behavior Rubric
It is now the second half of the school year, and we have been talking to the Kindergarten children about how we don't hit, kick, push or threaten people here at school. We will start the Kindergarten children with consequences for these behaviors next week. Please be looking for your Kindergarten student to be bringing home a rubric letter.
